The Atlantic Dubai has launched

The Atlantic Dubai has opened its doors with an official launch party held abroad on January 27! Our new restaurant at Souk Al Bahar seats around 200 covers; with an open plan dining room, Champagne Oyster Bar, and a dining terrace overlooking the Dubai Fountains, Dubai Opera House and Burj Khalifa.

Due to popular demand, this spring, The Atlantic’s $2 oysters are available every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. From 12pm enjoy $2 oysters in The Atlantic’s, Oyster Bar & Grill. For a limited time only.

Valid 19 Sep 2016 – 30 Nov 2016 every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 12pm until sold out. A minimum of ½ a dozen oysters must be ordered and the offer only applies to natural oysters. Guests must sit at high top tables or the bar. Not valid in conjunction with any other offer and not available on public holidays.

FOREWORD by Marco Pierre White

LET me tell you about Donovan Cooke. It was a day way, way back in 1991 and the setting was Harveys, my first restaurant, which sat beside Wandsworth Common, in London.

Back then, you didn’t learn management skills as a chef-patron. You weren’t taught how to conduct an interview. Jobs were awarded more on gut instinct, rather than CVs (my own career had begun with a knock on the kitchen door).

Donovan Cooke had two things going for him.

First, he had worked at the Waterside Inn, a renowned institution of gastronomy. Second, he was blessed with a surname that was guaranteed to intrigue. Could Donovan Cooke or not? We were both Yorkshire boys, too. The ‘interview’ ended with the words, ‘You’ve got the job. Let’s see how it goes.’ My decision on that day remains one of the wisest moves of my career. The young man who started in my kitchen a few days later was not only a gifted craftsman, but also one of the hardest working He was propelled by a gritty determination to create incredible, sublime food. He is a master classicist; the foundation of his dishes frequently shows his passion for classic French cuisine.

Our journey together led from Harveys to MPW the Hyde Park Hotel. It was the toughest period of my career and – six days a week for three years – Donovan was at my side, thank God. He could absorb immense pressure, consistently delivering a standard of excellence, even on very many nights of very ltle sleep. Exhaustion is an essential part of the job. was desperately sad when Donovan said it was time to move on. Shortly after his departure, my restaurant won three Michelin stars. I remain indebted to the author of this book. I have since visited Donovan whenever I am in Melbourne, eating fantastic seafood at The Atlantic. I was there not so long ago, and he asked to write a few words by way of introduction.

Well, that is both a privilege and an honour.

It took a Yorkshireman called Cook to discover Australia, but it has taken a Yorkshireman called Cooke to realize an incredibly special aspect of the country’s gastronomy.
